Saints fought and won two tough games against Lady Cougars

ST. AUGUSTINE - Flagler College took down Peach Belt Conference leader Columbus State University in a doubleheader this afternoon at Flagler Field. They won 5-2 in the opener and 4-3 in nine innings in the second game.

Flagler is now 12-33 overall and 8-15 in the Peach Belt. The Saints have won the last 9-of-10 games against the Lady Cougars. Columbus State is 30-17 overall and 17-6 in conference play. The Saints will conclude the series against the Lady Cougars tomorrow at 1 p.m.

In the first game, the Saints took a 3-1 lead in the third when a Ryleigh Hall scored Hannah Smith.

In the fourth, Flagler extended its lead with a bases loaded walk drawn by Smith to score Haleigh Curry and a sacrifice fly by Kiley McQuillan to score Annake Meadows.

Stephanie Daly went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in. Smith had a single, scored two runs, and batted one more in. McQuillan had a single with a run scored, and one RBI.  
 
Jordan Sheets (3-10) got the win for the Saints as she allowed two runs on five hits. She retired 9-of-the-last-11 batters. Sheets produced 13 fly outs and five ground outs with two strikeouts.

Khloe Shears (16-7) threw 3.1 innings and surrendered five runs on eight hits to get the loss. Hannah Deschambault finished the game.

Nova Wright had two singles and scored once. Ansley Collins had a double and scored a run.
 
In game two, the two teams were tied at 2-all after seven and had to go to extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, the Saints tied up the game with a bases loaded walk drawn by Smith to score Meadows. With the bases still loaded, McQuillan hit ground ball to third base, but the throw was offline and allowed Burns to score the winning run.

Rylie Rowe (6-14) won the game for the Saints in nine innings. She allowed three runs on nine hits. Rowe produced 16 fly outs and eight ground outs with one strikeout.
 
Burns, Ricci, Montalvo, and Meadows all had one single and scored one run. Daly and Smith both had one run batted in.

Gracyn Gurley (0-1) threw came in to pitch 4.2 innings, allowed six hits, and two runs (one unearned) to get the loss. Lily Miller threw the first four innings.

Collins had two singles and scored a run. Izzy Ripatti and Mary-Catherine Sorrell went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Sorrell had one run batted in.
