DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Flagler College 7-5 Tuesday evening 7-5 at Embry-Riddle Softball Field.
Flagler drops to 10-33 overall while Embry-Riddle improves to 20-21 overall. The Saints will play a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader this weekend at Flagler Field against Columbus State University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
In the fifth,
Ryleigh Hall tied the game at 4-all with a single to right field to score
Stephanie Daly and
Kiley McQuillan.
The Eagles answered back in the home half of the fifth. A leadoff walk, a base hit, and a hit by pitch loaded the bases with one out. Pinch hitter Kendall Wilkie hit a sacrifice fly to score the go-ahead run and Sierra Lipton followed with a two-run single for insurance.
The Saints scored twice in the first inning with a run scoring on a fielder's choice by
Hannah Smith. Then, Daly scored
Emily Ricci on a groundball to second.
Shelby Morse (11-9) got the win for Embry-Riddle. She allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings. She had two strikeouts, three flyouts, and 10 ground outs. Ava Domenici finished the game and grabbed a save.
Lipton went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Emma Wood had a single with a run scored, and one more batted in.
Alyssa Hunter (0-2) got the loss today for the Saints.
Jordan Sheets started the game and went two innings.
Ava Matthews went two innings.
Riley Rowe finished out the game.
McQuillan went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Hall had three singles and knocked in two runs. Burns had a single and scored once. Ricci had a single and scored two runs.
