ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The No. 5 ranked Flagler College men's tennis team defeated No. 8 Washburn University, 6-1 for the second time this season, this afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
The Saints are off to another impressive start to their season, moving to 7-1. The Ichabods go .500 and move to 5-5 on the year. Flagler will face their third ranked opponent in a row as they host No. 32 Lenoir-Rhyne University on Wednesday, Mar. 11 at 2 pm.
The Saints made quick work in doubles to give themselves their first point towards victory.
Ilian Borlee and
Simon Malis finished their match first, defeating Tommy Cecchetti and Yoshinobu Nakatsuji 6-1 on court two. To send the match into singles was
Aniss Rafiq and
Noah Paterson who defeated Kilian Martinez and Yuto Miyagawa 6-2.
During singles play, four Saints earned ranked wins, with three of them being "upsets". No. 36
Raphael Rousson was the first to gain a win, defeating Moritz Pieper in two 6-1 sets. No. 52
Aniss Rafiq handled No. 11 Pavlos Parson 6-4 and 6-0 on court one. To give the Saints their win, No. 32
Simon Malis upset No. 31 Tommy Cecchetti 7-5 and 6-1.
After the clinch, No. 19
Ilian Borlee earned his win over No. 23 Kilian Martinez. After exchanging 6-3 sets, Borlee took the point with a 1-0(10-6) finish.
Aly El Rafie earned his highest ranked win and second of his career after defeating No. 33Â Yuto Miyagawa 2-6, 6-3 and 1-0(10-8).
