MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Flagler College men's lacrosse team dropped their one goal match, 9-8, against No. 19 Florida Institute of Technology this afternoon at the Rick Stottler Field.
The Saints suffered their third one goal loss of the season, dropping them to 5-4 overall. The Panthers advanced to 6-2 on the season. Flagler will return home on Tuesday, Mar. 17 to face Colorado Mesa University at 2 p.m.
The match saw each team exchange scoring runs and had the lead change four times. A near mirror of a match, the Saints were outshot 30-26, but outshot the Panthers on goal 15-13.
Ben Nyberg and
Trace McDonald led the Saints offense yet again. Nyberg tied for a match high three goals while McDonald had a match high three assists. Five remaining Saints scored goal a piece.
As a team, the Saints outpaced the Panthers on defense. Causing 14 turnovers, McDonald accounted for a match high four.
Conner Delz and
Brendan Watson both caused three with an additional five Saints causing one. Watson set a new personal record, recording seven ground balls while
Tyler Hayden found five. Hayden had a career day at the faceoff, winning 12 of his 17 attempts.
