TAMPA, Fla. - A historic season for the No. 16 (USILA Top-20) Flagler College men's lacrosse team ended at the hands of No. 2 University of Tampa, 12-3, this afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic Complex.
Flagler's season ended with a 12-6 record while the Spartans moved to 19-1. Ending in the second round, this is the furthest the program has advanced.
A strong defensive effort from the Saints held the Spartans to two goals in the first quarter. Saving six shots in just the first quarter,
Jonah Smith ended with 16 saves. These 16 saves are the most for Smith since Mar. 17 where he saved 18 against Colorado Mesa University.
Brendan Watson,
Ty Scheckenbach and
Mekai Nelson each registered one caused turnover.
Andrew Wehberg finished with a team high four ground balls.
Leading the Saints offense was Freshman Dempsey Gibbs. Gibbs scored two goals on four shots.
Trace McDonald registered one goal. In McDonald's 68 career matches, he has scored at least one point in all but one contest. McDonald finished his career as the program's lead goal scorer with 122 goals.
