COCHRAN, Ga. –
Kiley McQuillan's two-run double completed a four-run sixth inning as Flagler College defeated Middle Georgia State University 7-5 in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Friday evening at Knights Field.
Flagler improved to 6-15 overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt. Middle Georgia dropped to 5-11 overall and 0-4 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at noon in a doubleheader.
The score was tied at 2-all going into the top of the sixth.
Raquelle Justice got a leadoff infield single and was bunted over to second base.
Chaynie Cornwell came in to pinch run for Justice.
Mia Fisher's single up the middle scored Cornwell to break the tie. The next two batters drew walks to load the bases.
Hannah Smith laced a single to left field to increase Flagler's lead to 4-2. McQuillan followed with her two-run double.
The Knights pushed across three runs in the home half of the inning and had the tying run on third base when the last out as recorded.
Fisher hit an RBI double in the seventh to give the Saints a little breathing room.
Riley Rowe (4-7) allowed four earned runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings to get the win.
Ava Matthews finished the game to record her first save.
McQuillan finished 3-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in. Fisher also went 3-for-4 with a double, scored two runs, and drove in two more. Smith collected two singles and knocked in two runs.
Riley Haley (2-4) allowed four runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings for the Knights.
Jada Akeson went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, scored two runs, and had one RBI. Mel Bullock collected three singles and knocked in two runs.
