AIKEN, S.C. –
Mason Manning and
Melvin Teal each scored 12 points in Flagler College's 62-55 loss at the University of South Carolina Aiken Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
USC Aiken evened its overall record to 11-11 and improved to 6-8 in the Peach Belt. The two teams split the two-game season series. Flagler had its five-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 15-8 overall and 9-6 in league play. The Saints will venture to Greenwood, South Carolina to face Lander University next Saturday.
Flagler had trailed by as many as 13 (51-38) in the second half, but scored 11 consecutive points to cut the deficit to two (51-49) after a pull-up jumper by
Rahdir Hicks.
The Pacers then sprinted out to a 10-point lead (59-49) with 3:41 to go, but a pair of free throws by
Hoku Fisher with 47 seconds left made it a one possession game, 62-59. A Flagler turnover led to a dunk in transition by USC Aiken with 21 seconds left.
Hicks finished with eight points and four assists for the Saints while
Boom Reeves tacked on eight points and five rebounds.
Jordan Smith led Flagler with six rebounds.
Jonah Lawrence, who had the dunk near the end of the game, scored a game high 16 points and added five rebounds as well as five assists for the Pacers. Josiah Harding chipped in with 13 points while McCaskill Rivers finished with 12 points and seven boards. Chedlet Delva had a game-high 15 rebounds.
