Hicks sinks trey with 2.6 left in second OT in Flagler victory

AMERICUS, Ga. – Rahdir Hicks sank a three-pointer with 2.6 seconds left in the second overtime to give Flagler College a 72-70 double-overtime victory over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at The Storm Dome.

Flagler extended its winning streak to three games and improved to 13-7 overall and 7-5 in the Peach Belt. This was the first game in the program's Division II era to end in double overtime. The Saints lost a triple overtime game in 2011. Flagler also sweeps the season series against Georgia Southwestern. The Hurricanes had their two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 13-7 overall and 6-6 in conference play. The Saints host Columbus State University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.

The Saints ended regulation, the first overtime, and the second overtime on three-point field goals. Jordan Smith's trey tied the game at 52 at the end of regulation. Tariq Daughton sank the one to end the first overtime. Hicks had the game-winner.

Flagler trailed the entire way but took a short-lived 63-62 lead after a Hicks pull-up jumper with 4:24 left to go in the second overtime session. Camden Andrews later sank a three-pointer to give the Saints a 69-68 lead with 32 seconds left. Flagler led for a total of one minute and six seconds.

A JR Jacobs layup gave the Hurricanes a 70-69 lead with 18 seconds remaining. After a Flagler timeout, after the inbounds pass, Hicks moved from the baseline to the top of the key, slid behind a defender, and got the pass from Andrews. Hicks sank the shot from a couple feet behind the left side of the arc.

Jordan Smith scored a season-high 23 points coming off the bench for the Saints. He made 9-of-17 from the field and was 5-of-8 from three-point range.
