SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Flagler College women's lacrosse team led by
Jessica Wright defeated Saint Leo University 18-11 this evening at University Turf.
Starting off 2-0, the Saints gained their first ranked win of the season. The Lions fell to 0-1 in the season opener. The Saints return home to play Florida Institute of Technology on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.Â
The Saints came off to a hot 3-0 start and maintained the lead for the remainder of the match. Wright finished with a career match, scoring six goals on seven shots and adding two assists. Playing all around ball, Wright also added two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Adding to the offensive front was
Carley Tepel who scored four goals and one assist.
Ella Pinder was the final Saint to finish with a hat trick or more, scoring three goals.
On the defensive side Pinder finished with a tied team high two caused turnovers and led the Saints in draw controls with four. Four other Saints in
Dakota Capolino,
Jenn Seebach,
Taylor Halloran and
Carly Bagnasco were disrupters as they each caused one turnover. In at goal, Capolino had a match high five ground balls while making 11 saves. Dominating the draw control, the Saints outpaced the Lions 17-14 with Bagnasco and
Mia Cosentino both winning three and
Claudia Tanksley winning two.
As a team the Saints outpaced the Lions in all major categories. In clears, the Saints were near perfect, going 13-14. In ground balls, the Saints outpaced the Lions as they grabbed 17 of 31. Peppering the net, the Saints shot a total 41 times with their most coming from the first quarter, with 13.Â
