ST. AUGUSTINE - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) No. 10 Flagler College women's lacrosse team dominated No. 24 Florida Institute of Technology, 18-9 this evening at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
Advancing to a 3-0 record, the Saints have averaged 17.6 goals a game, with back-to-back 18 point ranked games. The Panthers are still looking for their first win as they dropped to 0-2. The Saints will return to the field on Sunday to face Saint Michael's College at 12 p.m.
Taking the lead and never looking back, the Saints opened up the match with two unanswered goals and maintained the lead from them on. Their longest scoring run came at the end of the second and into the third quarter with a five goal extension.
Ella Pinder and
Jessica Wright shared the back of the net as each scored four goals while also finding one assist. Pinder was perfect in shooting, going 4-4 while Wright went 4-5. Playing a complete game, Pinder led the Saints in draw controls with five, ground balls with five and caused turnovers with three.
Six additional Saints aided in the scoring campaign, with
Carley Tepel,
Ava Lambros and
Mia Cosentino each scoring two or more goals. In at goal,
Dakota Capolino made seven saves. Facing nine free position shot attempts, Capolino only allowed three goals from normal field play.
