Saints Sweep PBC Weekly Awards Following 2-0 Week

10/5/2026 3:30:00 PM

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference has announced its men's soccer weekly honors on Monday afternoon, and the Flagler College Saints swept the awards after a dominant week. Finn Weigelt was named the Player of the Week, Filip Hornburg earned Defensive Player of the Week, and Xander LaBelle garnered Goalkeeper of the Week honors.

The trio led the Saints to a 2-0 week on the road, including a 2-1 victory at Middle Georgia and a 4-0 shutout at Clayton State. Flagler is finding its rhythm at the right time, winning three straight matches and outscoring their opponents 7-1 during that stretch. The Saints sit atop the conference standings at 6-0-1 with five more league matches remaining.

Weigelt, a senior forward, took home Player of the Week honors after finding the back of the net three times. The Berlin, Germany native sparked an impressive comeback at Middle Georgia, scoring two goals in the final nine minutes to lead the Saints to victory. The brace was the third of his storied career, and his first since 2024. Just days later, Weigelt put the Saints on the board in the 14th minute at Clayton State, which set the tone for a 4-0 shutout. Weigelt leads the Saints in scoring and ranks third in the league in goals, and first in game-winning goals.

"Finn has been clinical in front of goal for us this season," said Flagler men's soccer head coach Thomas Coombes. "He has stepped up as a senior to lead the front line and has scored some important goals in big moments for us. He is a big player for us both physically and in terms of his importance to the team."

Sophomore defender Filip Hornburg earned his second Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. The Oslo, Norway native played all 90 minutes on the backline in the 2-1 victory over Middle Georgia. In the weekend cap, Hornburg toed up a penalty kick and found the back of the net for the third time this season. On defense, Hornburg helped the Saints to their third clean sheet of the season. Hornburg is coming off a stellar freshman campaign in which he was named the 2025 PBC Defensive Player of the Year and a D2CCA First Team All-American.

"Filip has continued to show his class this season. He is finding form for us at the right time and is demonstrating why he is one of the best Division 2 defenders in the country!"

Rounding out the sweep is junior goalkeeper Xander LaBelle who earned Goalkeeper of the Week praise. The Sarasota native started both matches between the pipes and conceded just one goal. Against Clayton State, LaBelle smothered a season-high nine saves to earn his second shutout of the season. In addition, he became the first Saints goalkeeper since 2013 to record an assist by setting up the Henry Okenla goal in the 71st minute.

"Xander has done a brilliant job stepping up for us this season, and this award demonstrates that. He has shown his qualities as a keeper and continues to impress further with every appearance!"
