AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference has announced its weekly honors on Monday afternoon, and Flagler defender
Filip Hornburg has been named Defensive Player of the Week. This honor is the fifth time this season that Hornburg has garnered defensive praise.
"This season, we made Filip a captain and he has demonstrated his maturity and leadership traits game in and game out," said Flagler head coach
Thomas Coombes. "When you combine this with his talent, it is clear to see why he is one of the best players in the country!"
The reigning PBC Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year is putting together an incredible sophomore campaign. Last week, Hornburg helped the Saints to a 2-0 week with victories over Embry-Riddle and Lander. As a unit, Flagler conceded two goals across 180 minutes of action. The Oslo, Norway native found the back of the net for the fourth time this season in a 2-1 victory over Lander on Saturday.
Hornburg has played a key role in the Saints eight-game winning streak, the longest in program history since 2002. Flagler is 10-0-1 in Peach Belt Conference play, which is the most wins in league play in D2 program history.
Flagler returns to the pitch tonight, October 26
th for their regular season finale. The Saints are set to welcome Georgia Southwestern at 5:00 p.m. in a makeup game from earlier in the season. Fans can tune into the action on the Peach Belt Conference Sports Network. Admission to the match is free.
