DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -
Trace McDonald pulled together a hat trick in the Flagler College men's lacrosse 7-8 season opener loss against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University this afternoon.
Current No. 12 Flagler dropped to 0-1 while Embry-Riddle advanced to 1-0. The Saints will hit the road next week to face Lynn University on Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.
A strong defensive bout by both teams kept the game within a two point difference for majority of the match. Short stick defensive midfielder,
Brendan Watson led the charge on defense, with a tied match-high three caused turnovers. Among field players, Watson also registered the most ground balls, also finding three. In net,
Wade Lamon tied for a match high eight saves and found a team high five groundballs.
On offense, the Saints found success across the board with seven players gaining a point, five of which were from goals. McDonald led the offense with his three unassisted goals while
Griffin Moore,
Brendan Obloj,
Will Linko and
Cole Gaudet each found one goal.
Jack Pilla and
Sam Larrimore were the distributors today as both notched an assist.
The Eagles were led by Lucas Anthony who found four unassisted goals and Christopher Harper who had a match high two assists. On defense, Gavin Daly led with three caused turnovers and six groundballs.
