Herrin and Smith combine to score 45 points as Flagler rolls past GSW

AMERICUS, Ga. – Natalie Herrin and Marley Smith combined to score 45 points as Flagler College rolled to a 75-57 win over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at The Storm Dome.

Flagler improved to 9-11 overall and 4-8 in the Peach Belt Conference. Georgia Southwestern dropped to 9-10 overall and 5-7 in conference play. The Lady 'Canes have lost six-out-of-their-last-seven games. The Saints won both games in the two-game series this year. Flagler hosts No. 22 (WBCA Division II Top 25) Columbus State University Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.

A 17-2 run by the Saints that started near the end of the first quarter and extended through the second quarter eliminated a 14-13 GSW lead. A pair of Carleigh Grimm layups sparked the run and a Gabby Bush free throw with 3:52 left in the second quarter ended it and gave Flagler a 30-16 lead.

The Saints led by as many as 23 (73-50).

Herrin finished with a season-high 23 points as she made 6-of-7 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. She grabbed seven rebounds and tallied five assists. Marley Smith added 22 points with nine rebounds. She made 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Bush and Abby Smith added nine and eight points, respectively.

Flagler shot a season-best 57.1 percent from three-point range.

Madison Brittle led the Lady 'Canes with 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Tiara Hozumi added 11 points.

Georgia Southwestern struggled from the perimeter making only 2-of-22 from three-point range.
