ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College's
Marley Smith scored a team high 14 points in a 68-52 loss to Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym.
Augusta won its fourth game in a row and improved to 13-5 overall and 8-3 in the Peach Belt. The Jaguars won both games in the series this year. Flagler dropped to 8-11 overall and 3-8 in conference play. The Saints are on the road Wednesday at Georgia Southwestern State University.
The Jaguars shot 66.7 percent (10-15) from the field and 66.7 percent (6-9) from three-point range in the second quarter and took a 36-24 lead into the half. Augusta used an 18-6 run in the that quarter to take a 14-point lead (36-22).
The Saints got as close as six points twice in the third quarter after basket by
Carleigh Grimm and a free throw from
Aspen Weeks.
Augusta's Amari Jackson led all scorers with 20 points, and she completed the double-double with 11 rebounds. Jackson added four blocked shots. Quinasia Abercrombie tallied 16 points while Sa'Niah Dorsey and Eylse Autrey each contributed 10 points.
Weeks finished with 11 points for the Saints and
Jessica Dowdy corralled a career high 10 rebounds.
