MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State University used a 14-2 run in the third quarter to pull away from Flagler College for a 57-49 win in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Tuesday evening at The Loch and Mason Barfield Court.
Flagler dropped to 8-10 overall and 3-7 in the Peach Belt. Clayton State improved to 7-10 overall and 4-6 in conference play. Flagler plays host to Augusta University this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
The Lakers led by as many as six points in the first half and took a 21-17 lead into the locker rooms. A
Marley Smith jump shot got the Saints to within four (24-20) with 7:50 left in the third quarter. Kyla Greene followed with a three-pointer to start the Laker spurt that lasted four minutes.
The Saints would pull to within four (49-45) with 4:09 remaining in the game after a
Marley Smith three-pointer, but that was as close as Flagler could get.
Marley Smith and
Emerson Kutz each scored 10 points for the Saints. Kutz added five rebounds and a career high three steals.
Natalie Herrin finished with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Kyla Greene led all scorers with 14 points. Tianna Dismuke recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Lakers. Paige McDonald chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds. Jasmyn Burts had five of the team's 17 steals.
