DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Earning his first win as the head coach of the Flagler College volleyball team,
Jeff Reynolds guided the Saints to a 3-1 (16-25, 28-26, 25-16, 25-20) win over the University of Montevallo Saturday afternoon at the Bahama House Classic at the ICI Center. A late rally by the Saints fell short in a 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 18-25, 26-24, 12-15) loss to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
After the matches, Flagler moved to 1-3 while Montevallo fell to 0-3 and Embry-Riddle improved to 2-1. The Saints open at home on Thursday against Ashland University to open the Flagler Saints Invitational at 8 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
The Saints had a balanced attack in their win over the Falcons as they had 10 kills a piece from
Cassidy Bloom,
Katherine Rank and
Marley Middlebrooks.
Gracie Fleming added nine kills and hit .471 with just one error on 17 swings to go along with five total blocks.
Clare Sheedy recorded her first double-double of the season with a match-high 38 assists and 11 digs. Bloom added four aces and eight digs to her line. Middlebrooks was a dig shy of a double-double with nine.
The Falcons were led by Mallory Hulsey who recorded a match-high 13 kills. Eliza Tyrel finished with four aces. Defensively, Ava Wind had a match-high 14 digs and Danielle Greene had a match-high nine total blocks.
In the final match against Embry-Riddle, Bloom finished with a career-high 15 kills and added nine digs. Middlebrooks recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs while Fleming hit a stellar .545 with 12 kills on 22 errorless swings. Fleming also had four total blocks.
Caity Clancy collected a season-high 27 digs. Sheedy tallied 45 assists and had nine digs. Bloom had four aces while Sheedy added three more.
Riley Murray had a season and team high five blocks.
Dakota Ziemen and Fifi Harvey led four Eagles in double-figure kills with 15 apiece. Isabella Rujano added 13 kills, eight digs, and five total blocks. Haley Manjack had 10 kills with two errors on 17 swings for a .471 hitting percentage. Ashlyn Koerner posted a double-double with 45 assists and 15 digs. Gabriela Pagan collected a team-high 20 digs.
