INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The No. 8 (ITA Division II Top 50) Flagler College women's tennis team was selected as the No. 4 seed in the NCAA preliminary round, released Monday night.
The Saints will travel to Catawba College to compete at the Johnson Tennis Center, where they will take on the No. 5 seed, Wingate University, in the first round of the tournament. Joining the Saints and Bulldogs is the No. 1 seed Catawba Indians and No. 8 Erskine College. The Saints will begin their play at 2 p.m.
The undefeated Catawba Indians earned the No. 1 overall seed after being ranked first in the region and sixth in the nation. During their season, Catawba was crowned the South Atlantic Conference Tournament champions and boast a 23-0 overall record.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Saints made their way to the tournament. The journey to the No. 4 spot saw them put together a 19-5 overall record, including a 9-4 record against nationally ranked opponents.Â
Dana Heimen is the highest ranked Saint in the ITA DII Top 75, coming in at No. 8 in the nation as of the April 30 rankings. Heimen was also named to the first team All-PBC.
Anastasia Nikolova is ranked at No. 40 and joined Heimen on the first team All-PBC. For the third consecutive year, the Saints had a player named the PBC Freshman of the Year.
Adela Latalova took those honors as well as was named to the all-conference first team.
