GREENWOOD, S.C. – USC Aiken scored an unearned run in the top of the 10
th inning to earn a hard-fought 10-9 victory over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament elimination game Saturday afternoon at Stephen B. Dolny Stadium.
USC Aiken, the No. 7 seed, improved to 23-28 and advanced to another elimination game as they face Georgia College & State University tonight. Flagler College's season ends with a 30-20 overall record.
After three and one-half innings played, USC Aiken held a 9-1 lead. Flagler rallied with two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, four in the sixth, and tied the game in the eighth on
Caden Kresak's run-scoring single.
Josh Sharp led off the top of the 10
th for the Pacers with a single through the right side of the infield. He stole second base. Capers Molinaroli singled through the hole in the left side of the infield and USC Aiken had runners on the corners. Hunter Thompson followed by hitting a ground ball to Flagler's second baseman. He threw home to get Sharp trying to score, but the throw got away. The next three batters were retired in order.
Mason Gray drew a one-out walk for the Saints in the bottom of the 10
th. With two outs, Gray stole second but was stranded there.
Cole Evilsizor (6-3) tossed the final 3.1 innings to get the win. He allowed one run on two hits and retired the last seven-of-eight batters he faced.
Sharp led the Pacers with three singles, two runs batted in, and he scored two runs. Tyler Casciato added three singles and scored two runs. Thirteen of the Pacers' 14 hits were singles.
Ethan Bobo (3-4) worked the final two innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts.
Daniel Fischer started while
Drew Rosenberg,
Jake Hill, and
Steven Reiss followed in relief.
Carson Page led the Saints offense for the second day in a row. He went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and he scored two runs. Gray finished 3-for-5 with a double and he scored two runs. Kresak had a pair of singles, scored two runs, and knocked in three more.
