ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College women's tennis dropped one spot to No. 8 in the latest ITA Division II Top 50 national ranking and they remained No. 4 in the final NCAA Division II Southeast Region ranking as both were released on Wednesday.
The NCAA Division II Tournament Selection Show will be on Monday at 8:30 p.m. on ncaa.com. The preliminary rounds will be played May 12-13.
The Saints are 19-5 this season and is coming off a 1-1 performance at the Peach Belt Conference Championship last weekend at Columbus, Georgia. Flagler romped over Georgia Southwestern State University 4-0 in a first-round match but fell 4-1 to home standing Columbus State University in the semifinal round.
Three teams from the Peach Belt Conference, including Flagler, are ranked in the top 25. The University of North Georgia (18-6) moved up one spot to No. 4. Columbus State (15-5) also moved up one spot, but to No. 9.
Barry University (17-0) has been at the top of the polls all season. Nova southeastern University (16-3) jumped one spot to No. 2 while Midwestern State University (20-2) dropped one to No. 3. The University of West Alabama (16-5) leapt three spots to No. 5
Dana Heimen is ranked No. 8 in the singles rankings. She holds a 25-9 record.
Anastasia Nikolova checks in at No. 40 and holds a 21-9 record. Heimen and Nikolova are ranked No. 3 in doubles with a 23-7 record.
In the NCAA D2 Southeast Region poll, Flagler is ranked No. 4 with a 19-5 overall D2 record and a 15-5 mark within the region. There are five PBC schools listed in the ranking. North Georgia (18-6, 18-5) comes in at No. 2 as it won the Peach Belt tournament title. Columbus State (15-5, 15-5) is No. 3 while Georgia College & State University (15-6, 14-6) is hanging on at No. 7. Augusta University (11-7, 11-6) is ranked No. 9.
Catawba College (23-0, 22-0), the South Atlantic Conference champion, tops the ranking while Wingate University (17-5, 16-5) comes in at No. 5. Lees-McRae College (15-3, 15-3), the Conference Carolinas champion, follows at No. 6 while Erskine College (15-6, 15-6) is No. 8. Coker College (14-6, 14-6) rounds out the ranking. The three conference champions qualify automatically and there will be five at-large berths to the preliminary round.
Flagler's in-division strength of schedule is .617, which ranks third in the region. The in-region strength of schedule is .587, which is fourth-best. Selection criteria for making the field includes Division II in-region winning percentage, Division II winning percentage, Division II strength of schedule, Division II head-to-head competition, results versus Division II common opponents, Division II record on the road, Division II results vs. team with a .500 record or better, in-region Division II non-conference won-lost record, late season performance, performance indicator, in-region strength of schedule, in-region RPI, results vs. Division II in-region common opponents, and results vs. ranked Division II opponents.
