Hunter tosses a no-hitter as Flagler sweeps Savannah State

ST. AUGUSTINE – Alyssa Hunter (12-3) tossed the Flagler College program's seventh no-hitter in the first game and Jordan Sheets (9-2) only allowed one hit in the second game in a non-conference doubleheader sweep over Savannah State University Tuesday afternoon at Flagler Field. Flagler won both games 8-0 in five innings.

Flagler improved to 27-12 overall while Savannah State dropped to 15-22. The Saints open a three-game Peach Belt Conference series against Lander University on Friday at 4 p.m. at Flagler Field.

In the opener, Hunter retired 15 of the 18 batters she faced, including seven strikeouts. She retired the last 10 batters in a row.

Reese Snipes' run-scoring single up the middle in the first was all of the offense Hunter would need.

Sydney Stewart socked a grand slam to center field in the second inning and Emily Ricci hit an RBI-double in the third to give Flagler a 6-0 lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Stewart got the inning going with a double to center. After a walk and a hit batter loaded the bases, Kiley McQuillan hit an infield single to score one run and Snipes followed with a single through the left side of the infield to end the game.

Stewart finished 2-for-3 with the double, grand slam, four runs batted in, and she scored three runs. Snipes collected two singles and drove in two runs. Brooke Maher hit a single and scored two runs.

Nia Fisher (9-6) took the loss for the Lady Tigers. She allowed eight runs on nine hits with seven walks.

Game two was more of the same. Sheets allowed only one hit and struck out six to get the shutout for Flagler. She retired eight of the last nine batters.

Stewart led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left field.

The Saints added two more in the second and tallied three in the third on a three-run home run to center by Snipes. Flagler added single tallies in the fourth and the fifth to end the game.

Snipes went 2-for-3 with the home run and four RBI. Stewart hit a home run and knocked in two runs.

Ariana Battle (2-5) allowed eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits to get the loss. She broke up Sheets' no-hit bid with a one-out single in the third inning.
