Saints come home with multiple school records

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Flagler College men's track and field team competed in the Running Elements Classic, hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at the ERAU Track Complex this weekend.

Overall, Flagler scored 17 points to tie the University of Tampa for 18th out of 47 teams. Notable competitors at the meet were NCAA Division I institutes such as the University of North Florida and South Carolina State University. Next week, the Saints will head back to Georgia Southern University to participate in the Georgia Showdown.

The record breaking meet started on Friday where four Saints set a new standard. Placing sixth overall, Caden Vann led the Saints in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.67. Nate Watson was the second breaker, placing 10th out of 97 runners in the 100 meter dash. Watson cleared the line in 10.65 seconds, .02 seconds off of ninth place. Malachi South continued his reign at the 200 meter taking 15th out of 115 runners. Smashing his own record, South finished in a time of 21.68. Kruz Jimenez took part in the long jump, where he launched himself 6.94 meters to beat his previous best and place seventh out of 35 jumpers.

In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Christian Fernandez was the lone Saint competing, placing sixth out of 25 runners. Francisco Ramirez led the Saints pack in the 1500 meter run win a fifth place finish. In his 3:52.46 finish, Ramirez beat out 103 runners and finished with a new personal record. 

On Saturday, the record breaking continued as the 4x100 meter team of Watson, Ryan Sen, Vann and South placed fifth in 41.97. Kaleb Williams dominated the 800 meter race, finishing first in 1:50.77 while among 115 runners. Holllins now holds the second fastest 800 time ran by a Saint this year.
