HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
Carley Tepel scored six goals, leading No. 12 (IWLCA Division 2 Top 25 Poll) Flagler College to a 16-13 win over The University of Alabama in Huntsville in a women's lacrosse game this afternoon at Charger Park.
The Saints improve to 9-5 for the season so far and 2-0 in GSC play. The Chargers drop to 6-9 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Flagler hosts the University of Montevallo on April 12 at noon at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
Sydney Onega's goal with 4:52 left in the first quarter started a 5-0 run that would give Flagler a commanding 8-2 lead with 6:30 left to play in the second quarter.
The Chargers began to come back in the end of the second quarter with a three-goal run, two being from Corine Baker, but the Saints led at the half, 9-5. Baker led the Chargers with four goals overall.
The two teams went goal-for-goal in the start of the third quarter, the Chargers attempting to make a comeback. However, three goals in a row from the Saints, two from Tepel and one from
Ava Lambros, kept the Saints in the lead.
Jessica Wright stood out offensively for the Saints as well, scoring a hat trick and making five assists. Onega finished with two goals and two assists while
Ella Pinder scored a pair of goals and added an assist.
The Saints never let go of their lead the whole game, however, the Chargers held them to just two goals in the fourth quarter and managed to bring the difference to just three goals.
The Saints defense complimented their high-scoring attack with Pinder winning four draw controls.
Molly Sloan caused two turnovers and picked up two groundballs. Goalie
Lauren Ribadeneira made nine saves and picked up three groundballs.
Chargers' goalie Isabelle Sawicki made five saves. Sarah Cole added three goals and one assist.
