DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Flagler College women's track and field team placed second at the Peach Belt Conference Championship while competing over the past two days at the ERAU Track Complex at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
The Saints had a record day, reeling in 129.5 points during the meet. This sets a new program record for the most points scored at a conference championship meet. Embry-Riddle won their eighth consecutive PBC title after scoring 272 points. In third place was Augusta University with 83, followed by Clayton State University at 81. In fifth with 79 points was Lander University, then Columbus State University at 71, University of North Georgia with 46 points and University of South Carolina-Beaufort in eighth place with 37.5 points.
An all-around team effort, the Saints had three first place finishers, four second place finishers, two third place finishers and multiple school records broken. All competitors who placed either first, second or third in their respective races were named all-conference, matching their finish.
Junior
Abby Misch made a tremendous career stride, earning the PBC Outstanding Track Athlete award. The award is given to the runner who scored the most points for their institution. Misch, scored a total of 28 points while competing in four events, three of which she found the podium in. In the 5000 meter run, Misch and the Saints smothered the opposition, taking first through fifth place. Creating a wall, the Saints cruised to victory with a lead time of 18:39.48. In the 1500, Misch narrowly placed second by a .27 margin, crossing the line in 4:47.61. In the last race of the day, Misch was a part of the 4x400 relay team.
Zoie Marchant started the relay off, following up with
Monique Whiteman,
Clemence Treguer then Misch as the anchor. The Saints ran a season high 4:01.38.
Whiteman finished her career at Flagler medaling in all three of her events. In the 1500, Whiteman finished first out of 16 runners in 4:47.34. Bringing home silver in the 5000, Whiteman was part of the wall that cruised to victory with a time of 18:43.45. Joining Whiteman on the relay team was Marchant who placed fourth in both of her individual events, the 800 and the 1500. In the 800, Marchant set a new person record with a time of 2:14.10.
For the second time in her career and first time in two years,
Chloe Smith competed in the 10000 meter run. Smith won her first ever collegiate gold medal in a time of 42:06.88. Adding to her accolades, Smith placed third in the 5000 meter run with a 18:43.77. Joining Smith in the 10k was
Enola Savel who placed second in 42:10.49.
In the sprints,
Zoe Zinnie put on a jaw dropping performance with a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles. Shattering her previous personal record of 15.14, which was set during the preliminaries, and setting a new school record, Zinnie finished in 14.85.
