HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
Carley Tepel scored five goals and was named to the all-tournament Team, as No. 11 (IWLCA Division II Top 25) Flagler College won its third-straight Gulf South Conference Tournament title with a 14-10 win over No. 22 Lander University this afternoon at the Spencer Sports Complex.
The Saints improved to 13-5 and are now on their way to the NCAA Tournament, with the first round to take place on May 8. The Bearcats ended their season 13-4.
Tepel's second goal of the game gave Flagler a 3-2 lead with 4:13 left in the first quarter and the Saints never trailed again.
A four-goal spurt starting at the end of the second quarter gave Flagler some breathing room.
Jessica Wright capped the run and gave the Saints a 10-4 lead with 8:11 left in the third.
The Bearcats scored six of the next eight goals and trailed 12-10 after Mickey Burnett scored her fourth goal of the game with 5:44 remaining.
Sydney Onega and
Ella Pinder scored back-to-back goals to close out the game and take home another ring for the Saints.
Onega scored four goals and tallied three assists in the game and was selected as the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
Although they fell short in the end, Kara Krusbe made five saves in goal for the Bearcats.
Lauren Ribadeneira stood out for the Saints with five saves and six groundballs.
