TAMPA, Fla.-
Jessica Wright scored a season high five goals as No. 11 (IWLCA Division II Top 25) Flagler College lost a heart-breaker, 16-15, to No. 9 Lynn University in a NCAA Division II National Tournament first round game Thursday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic Complex.
Flagler, the No. 5 seed, had its season end with a 13-6 record. Lynn, the No. 4 seed, improved to 15-4 and advanced to the quarterfinal round where it will face top-ranked University of Tampa on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The game was close throughout as a two-goal lead was the largest in the game. The Saints regained the lead (14-13) with 6:14 left in the game when
Sydney Onega scored on a free position shot. But just over 40 seconds later, Hannah Exley scored the first of three consecutive goals for Lynn.
Carley Tepel scored with 1:18 left to go in the game to cut the deficit to one (16-15), but the Saints lost the draw control and the Fighting Knights ran out the clock.
Onega finished with three goals and two assists while Tepel added three goals and one assist. Onega and Sloan finished with four and three ground balls a piece, respectively.
Rebecca Clark led Lynn with four goals and three assists while Exley and Kristyn Johnson each scored four goals. Clark scooped up five ground balls.
Lauren Ribadeneira tallied 13 saves for Flagler while Ava Cegilia, Holland Swope, and Callista Elica played for Lynn. The trio finished with one save.
