HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
Sydney Onega scored five goals and added three assists to lead No.11 (IWLCA Division II Top 25) Flagler College to a 19-8 rout over Lee University in a Gulf South Conference Tournament semifinal game at the Spencer Sports Complex this morning.
Flagler (12-5) advances to the GSC championship game to face the winner of Lander University-The University of Alabama Huntsville, which will take place Sunday at noon.
The Flames ended their season at 5-12.
The Saints started strong, shutting out the Flames 8-0 in the first quarter. The Saints high-scoring offense featured four goals from
Carley Tepel, and a hat trick from
Jessica Wright.
Overall, nine different Saints found the back of the net in today's game.
The Flames attempted to close the gap in the third quarter with a five-goal run, bringing them out of running clock and trailing 14-7.
However, the Saints continued to hold them to just one goal the rest of the game.
Although they fell short in the end, goalie Savannah Weisman made 10 saves for the Flames.
Tepel stood out defensively for the Saints as well, with five groundballs and two caused turnovers. Saints goalie
Lauren Ribadeneira made seven saves.
