GREENWOOD, S.C.–
Griffin Moore scored four goals to help lead No. 10 (USILA Division 2 Top 25) Flagler College rally to a 12-7 win over the University of Montevallo in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinal this evening at Van Taylor Stadium.
Flagler, the No. 2 seed, improved to 13-2 overall as it won its second game against Montevallo this year. The Saints will face Lander University in the conference tournament final for the third year in a row. The game will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. Montevallo, the No. 3 seed, ends its season with a 10-6 record. This is the third year in a row that Montevallo lost to Flagler in the PBC semifinals.
Flagler trailed 7-6 with 6:06 left to go in the third quarter.
Jack Pilla scored the equalizer with 4:33 left and
Ben Nyberg put the Saints ahead for good with a goal just six seconds later. That was all part of a 6-0 run by Flagler to close the game.
Griffin Moore scored three goals in that span.
The Saints trailed 3-1 at the end of the first quarter. However, goals from
Ian Plott and
Garrett Moore brought the Saints within one goal of the Falcons in the second quarter.
The Saints continued this momentum, opening the third quarter with a three-goal run. Two of them coming from
Trace McDonald who went on to score a hat trick for the Saints.
Josh Stevens made six saves and
Wade Lamon made seven, leading the Saints defense.
Matt Mitrega complemented this, winning eight face-offs and collecting five groundballs.
Although they fell short in the end, Matthew Boas led the Falcons with four goals. Alex Egorshin stood out, as well with 14 saves.
