AMERICUS, Ga. – Flagler College and Georgia Southwestern State University split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Lady 'Canes Softball Field. Georgia Southwestern won the opener 10-9 in eight innings while Flagler took the second game, 6-3.
Flagler is now 30-17 overall and 13-8 in the Peach Belt. Georgia Southwestern is 24-22 overall and 10-11 in conference play. The Saints close out the regular season at home with a three-game series against Georgia College & State University. The series starts on Friday at 6 p.m., which is "Senior Day."
In game two, Flagler used a five-run second inning in route to a 6-3 win.
Sydney Stewart blasted a three-run home run to centerfield to cap the scoring in the frame.
Kiersten James added a solo home run in fourth. She went 1-for-2 with two runs batted in and she scored two runs.
Alyssa Hunter (13-4) went the distance and allowed three runs and scattered six hits to pick up the win. She induced 11 fly outs and seven ground outs.
Reese Snipes finished with two singles and scored a run for the Saints.
Savana Bradford (4-4) took the loss in the circle for the Lady 'Canes. She surrendered five runs (four earned) one three hits in 1.1 innings.
Riley Ernst singled twice and drove in a run.
In the first game, Kendall Huelsman hit a game-ending home run to left-center to end the game in the eighth inning. She hit a three-run home run down the left field line in the sixth.
Flagler scored a run in the top of the seventh inning, which ultimately led to extra innings.
Jordan Moss hit a leadoff double to left-center, was bunted over to third, and scored on Stewart's sacrifice fly.
Regan Lee (2-2) earned the win in relief for Georgia Southwestern. In 2.2 innings, she allowed two runs on two hits.
Huelsman led the Lady 'Canes going 3-for-5 with a double and the two home runs, five RBI, and she scored three runs. Rebecca Hazard socked a pair of solo home runs.
Stephanie Daly (3-6), Flagler's third pitcher of the game, took the loss. She allowed one run on two hits in one-plus innings of work.
Kiley McQuillan went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI, and she scored a run.
Brooke Maher collected two singles and scored two runs. Stewart finished 1-for-2 with a home run, three RBI, and she scored three runs.
