ST. AUGUSTINE – Georgia College & State University pitcher Shelby Jones (11-10) tossed a two-hit shutout as she faced four batters over the minimum in a 7-0 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Friday evening at Flagler Field on "Senior Night."
Before the game, Flagler honored its seven seniors:
Taylor Barrett,
Rachel Hester,
Kiersten James,
Kyla Knier,
Jordan Moss,
Reese Snipes, and
Sydney Stewart.
Georgia College evened its overall record to 22-22 and improved to 13-9 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 30-18 overall and 13-9 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. to conclude the regular season.
Divina Checo belted a solo home run in the top of the first inning to get the Bobcats on the board.
GCSU added two more runs in the second, a single tally in the third, and three more in the fifth.
Jones only allowed two hits and finished with three strikeouts and one walk. She retired 12 batters on fly outs and six more on ground outs. Jones only threw 84 pitches.
Madison Todd socked a three-run pinch hit home run in the fifth.
Alyssa Hunter (13-5) took the loss for the Saints. She allowed three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.
Stephanie Daly and Hester worked in relief. Hester struck out a season-high seven batters.
Emily Ricci had both of Flagler's hits.
