No.6 Saints claim another conference win

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The No. 6 (USILA Division II Top 25) ranked Flagler College men's lacrosse team defeated Peach Belt Conference opponent, University of Montevallo, 16-9 yesterday at the Varsity Soccer Field.

The Saints improved to 3-0 in conference and 13-1 overall while the Falcons dropped to 9-6 and 0-1 in conference. Next week Flagler will travel to its final foe of the regular season, Lander University, at 1 p.m. on April 19.

Exchanging blows in the first three minutes of regulation, Trace McDonald started the Saints day off with an unassisted goal. To reignite the offensive, Ben Nyberg started the Saints four-goal run, off an assist from Griffin Moore. Nyberg then went on to score the final goal of the run off an assist from Brendan Watson.

In the second quarter, the Saints outscored the Falcons 4-2. Tyler Douglass found two of those goals, with two assists coming from McDonald. In the fourth quarter, the Falcons started their comeback, going on a four-goal run. Nyberg took it himself to stop that run, scoring the next two goals for the Saints, one of which was off an assist from Ian Plott. To finish the game off, Jack Pilla and Douglass both found a goal to re-extend the lead.

Three Saints finished the game off with five points. Douglass had five goals on eight shots, Nyberg had four goals and one assist and McDonald had two goals and three assists. Defensively, Josh Stevens had a .583 save percentage, with his seven saves. Brandon Grusholt had a career game, causing six turnovers and finding seven groundballs.
