AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Alyssa Hunter (8-1) picked up her second win of the weekend to help Flagler College to a 4-2 win over Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Sunday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
Flagler improved to 16-7 overall and 2-1 in the Peach Belt. Augusta dropped to 15-13 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Saints return to action on Friday at 5 p.m. against USC Beaufort at Flagler Field.
Sydney Stewart led off the game with a single up the middle and
Emily Ricci followed with a double to center field.
Hannah Smith cleared the bases with a double of her own to right field and Flagler took a 2-0 lead. Smith came around to score on a sacrifice fly.
In the home-half of the first, Ansley Gibson hit a two-run double to right-center. But that would be the only offense Augusta could muster.
Hunter pitched out of some traffic on the base paths as she allowed two runs on four hits. She walked four and struck out three. Hunter induced 14 ground outs and four more fly outs. The Jaguars stranded seven runners on base.
The Saints scored an insurance run in the third when
Reese Snipes' single to left scored Smith, who had doubled earlier in the inning, from second base.
Smith went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs batted in, and she scored two runs.
Jordan Moss finished with two singles.
Hannah Turner (5-5) surrendered four runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings to take the loss for the Jaguars.
Bobbi Poff had three of Augusta's four hits, all singles, and she scored a run.
