ST. AUGUSTINE –
Reese Snipes hit a grand slam in fourth inning to help Flagler College defeat USC Beaufort 6-3 in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Friday evening at Flagler Field.
Flagler improved to 17-7 overall and 3-1 in the Peach Belt. USC Beaufort lost its fifth game in a row and dropped to 16-13 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader to conclude the series.
The game was a scoreless tie heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Emily Ricci got Flagler's first hit with a bunt single as she eluded the first baseman's tag. Back-to-back walks to
Hannah Smith and
Kiley McQuillan loaded the bases. Snipes socked the second pitch she saw over the left field fence.
The Sand Sharks got on the board in the sixth with three runs. Addie Reynolds led off the inning with a home run and Saria Simmons hit a two-run double.
Kyle Knier hit a two-run single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth to give the Saints some insurance.
Alyssa Hunter (9-1) allowed three runs on eight hits to get the win in the circle for Flagler. She fanned four batters and retired 11 on ground outs with three more batters flying out.
Snipes finished 2-for-4 with the grand slam. Ricci went 2-for-3 with a double and she scored two runs.
Cierra Kinlaw (7-7) allowed six runs on five hits to go along with three walks and three strikeouts for USCB.
Katelyn Boyette reached base all three times as she had a single, a double, and was hit by a pitch. Taelor Chang collected two singles while Tamiyah Whitlock singled twice and scored a run.
