Flagler drops two to No. 25 Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – No. 25 (NFCA Division II Top 25) Nova Southeastern University used a pair of strong pitching performances to sweep a doubleheader against Flagler College, 1-0 and 9-1 in six innings, Tuesday afternoon at the NSU Softball Stadium.

Nova Southeastern won its fifth game in a row and improved to 17-7 overall. Flagler had its seven-game winning streak snapped and fell to 12-6. Up next for the Saints is a doubleheader on Thursday at 3 p.m. against Wheeling University at Flagler Field.

Gracelyn Wallace (7-2) tossed a six-hit complete game shutout with seven strikeouts.

She got all of the offense she needed in the bottom of the second inning. Lauren Margolis drew a one-out walk and Tori Copeland was hit by a pitch. Maliyah Lawson's single to third base loaded the bases. Abbey Moore hit a ground ball to third, which scored Margolis with the lone run.

Alyssa Hunter (5-1) allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts in a hard luck loss. She retired five batters on fly outs and seven more on ground outs. Hunter retired nine-of-the-last-10 batters she faced.

Lawson led the Sharks by going 3-for-3 with a double.

Jordan Moss collected two singles for the Saints.

In game two, Reese Snipes' RBI-single in the second inning gave the Saints a 1-0 lead.

But it was all Nova Southeastern after that. Cassidy Duskin hit a two-run single to put the Sharks on top 2-1 after two innings complete.

Nova Southeastern added two more in the third, four in the fourth and ended the game in the sixth on an infield hit by Duskin.

Wallace (8-2) tossed the final 3.2 innings to earn the win for the Sharks. She retired 11-of-the-13 batters she faced, including the last seven in a row.

Duskin finished with three singles, scored a run, and had three runs batted in. Lawson collected three singles and scored three runs. Margolis belted a grand slam in the fourth.

Stephanie Daly (2-2) allowed four runs on six hits in three innings of work. Rachel Hester tossed the final 2.2 innings.
