Adela Latalova won an exhausting 7-6 (10-8), 3-6, 6-3 singles match over Vasilissa Kupriyanova to clinch No. 4 (ITA Division II Top 50) Flagler College's 4-3 victory against No. 9 the University of North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference women's tennis match this afternoon at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.
Flagler improved to 14-2 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt. North Georgia dropped to 10-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Saints host Georgia College & State University on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Pollard Tennis Center.
A slow start to the day put the Saints in a 2-0 hole post doubles into the early matches of singles. The long claw back started from
Sofia Balsera's 6-2, 6-2 win against Carolina Reis.
Eryka Kruk followed suite against Emily Bush, defeating her 6-4 and 6-3. Taking the first lead of the day,
Anastasia Nikolova had a three-set match triumph against Ashley Moinard. After dropping the first set, Nikolova rallied back to take set two 6-3 then set three 6-4.
Laura Jipescu nearly had the comeback of the century against Linn Geordes. After dropping the first set, Jipescu went down 2-0 during the second, ultimately starting her comeback with a 6-4 set. At the start of set three, Jipescu went down 5-1 then bounced back to tie it 5-5. Despite the effort, she met her end at 7-5, putting the match in
Adela Latalova's hands.
