GREENWOOD, S.C. –
Jessica Wright scored four goals to help lead No. 11 (IWLCA Division 2 Top 25) Flagler College to a 9-7 win over No. 19 Lander University in a Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse game Saturday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium.
The Saints improved to 8-5 overall and kick off GSC play 1-0. The Bearcats dropped to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Flagler hits the road for another GSC game on April 5 at The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Wright kicked off the game with two goals in a row right out of the gate. The Saints continued to power through, creating a 5-3 lead in the first half.
The Saints never let up, opening the third quarter with three consecutive goals from
Carly LaFerriere,
Carly Bagnasco, and Wright.
In a last-ditch effort to close the gap, Brooke Kelly and Ella Benson scored two goals in a row to end the game for the Bearcats.
The Saints defense stood out with
Jenn Seebach picking up three groundballs and causing a turnover.
Carley Tepel caused two turnovers and collected three groundballs.
Ella Pinder also stood out with seven draw controls.
Saints' goalie
Lauren Ribadeneira made eight saves and collected three groundballs.
Bearcats' goalie Kara Krusbe made six saves.
