ANDERSON, S.C. –
Ava Lambros led No. 11 (IWLCA Division II Top 25 Poll) with five goals in a 16-15 loss at Anderson University in a non-conference women's lacrosse game Thursday evening at Spero Financial Field.
The Saints are now 7-5 overall and the Trojans improved to 5-4. The Saints will return on Saturday at noon to kick-off Gulf South Conference play at Lander University.
Emma Toole scored the game-winning goal for the Trojans with 52 seconds remaining in regulation.
Flagler put up the first point of the game thanks to an unassisted goal from
Martha Halford. Halford scored twice tonight. The Saints marched on creating a one-point lead to end the first quarter 5-4.
The Trojans closed the gap starting off the second quarter with two goals in a row from Ava Skeffington and Megan Muir. Skeffington led Anderson with six goals.
The Trojans ended the first half with a 10-6 lead.
Thanks to a five-goal run at the end of the quarter the Saints were back in the game, ending the third quarter tied at 12-all.
The two teams continued to fire back-and-forth, making it a close game, tied at 15-all with two minutes left.
Ellie Wilkins added four goals for Anderson while Ava Scattareggia scored three goals and tallied two assists. Amelia King made eight saves.
Although they fell short in the end,
Ella Pinder stood out for the Saints with seven draw controls, two caused turnovers, and two groundballs in addition to her goal.
Jessica Wright and
Barbara Tucker each added two goals and one assist.
Lauren Ribadeneira made five saves for the Saints.
