ST. AUGUSTINE – Rylie Moody's single in the top of the ninth inning scored Kaitlyn Johnson from second base to give No. 8 (NFCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia a 9-8 lead over Flagler College, and that would go on to be the final, in a Peach Belt Conference softball game at Flagler Field.
North Georgia improved to 27-6 overall and 10-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 22-9 overall and 7-2 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is a three-game conference series at Columbus State University. Flagler and Columbus State open with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cougar Field.
Natalie Ray led off the ninth with an infield single, but after a fly out, Ray was caught trying to steal second base. Johnson followed with a single through the left side of the infield and she stole second base. Moody hit a single back up the middle, just out of the reach of the Flagler second baseman, and Johnson beat the throw to the plate.
The Saints were retired in order in the home-half of the inning.
Angelina Badalament (14-3) went the distance and allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits with seven walks. She tossed 217 pitches.
Moody paced the 15-hit attack going 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs batted in, and she scored a run. Ray went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs. Sydnee Reaves hit a pair of doubles and drove in a run. Johnson collected two singles and scored two runs. Marycille Brumby hit a single, a double, scored a run, and had one RBI.
Rachel Hester (4-3) took the loss in relief. She surrendered two runs on five hits in the final 3.2 innings.
Sydney Stewart led the Flagler offense going 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, and she scored three runs.
Kiley McQuillan finished with two singles, two RBI, and she scored a run.
