No. 6 Saints pull off upset win over No. 4 Eagles

ST. AUGUSTINE - The No. 6-ranked (ITA Division II Top 50) Flagler College women's tennis team pulled off their biggest upset of the season thus far against the No. 4-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 4-2 this morning at the Pollard Tennis Center.

The now 15-2 Eagles were on a 10-match win streak before meeting the Saints. In those 10 wins, three of those were against ranked opponents. The Saints are now 12-2 and pick up their sixth ranked win on the season, with two of those being against No. 4 ranked opponents. 

Despite their slow start at doubles, No. 24 Dana Heimen and Anastasia Nikolova defeated No. 41 Laura Cuesta Bret and Carla Cabero Del Hierro, 6-2. With the other two matches going to the wire, Sofia Balsera and Adela Latalova had their match going into a tie break where they fell 7-6 (7-4) to Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and Charley Egger.

In singles, Heimen stayed hot against No. 24 Cuesta Bret with a 6-0 and 6-2 victory to tie the match up 1-1. Balsera tied the match up 2-2 against Alessia Tripaldelli where she beat her 6-3 and 6-1. To give the Saints their first lead of the match, Eryka Kruk defeated Cabero Del Hierro with two 6-4 sets. The match sealing win came from Laura Jiprscu in three sets over Franziska Kremerskothen. Jipescu's clinch was a result of a 6-2 win in the first and third set.
