Game Recap: Softball |

Snipes belts two homers and drove in nine in Flagler’s sweep of No. 8 UNG

ST. AUGUSTINE – Reese Snipes went 4-for-7 with a triple, two home runs, and nine runs batted in to help Flagler College to a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader sweep of No. 8 (NFCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia Saturday afternoon at Flagler Field.

Flagler has won seven of its last eight games to improve to 22-8 overall and 7-1 in the Peach Belt. North Georgia had its 19-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 26-6 overall and 9-2 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at noon to finish the series. The last time Flagler swept a doubleheader from North Georgia was April 12, 2019 (1-0 and 7-3) at Flagler Field.

The first game was wild with several crazy innings. But Kiley McQuillan hit a game-ending sacrifice fly to score Sydney Stewart from third base in the bottom of the seventh.

Flagler scored seven runs in the third inning and five runs in the sixth. North Georgia erupted for three runs in the second, five runs in the fourth, and four in the seventh.

Rachel Hester (4-2) got the win in relief after allowing seven runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings pitched.

Brooke Maher went 3-for-3 with a double and she scored two runs. Snipes hit a triple and a grand slam while Stewart collected two singles, scored two runs, and drove in a pair. Hannah Smith hit two singles and scored two runs.

Angelina Badalament (13-3) allowed 11 earned runs on 10 hits in six innings and took the loss in the circle.

Jenna Miles led the Nighthawks as she collected three singles, had three runs batted in, and she scored a run. Rylie Moody belted two home runs and knocked in three runs. Sydnee Reaves went 2-for-5 with a triple, scored two runs, and drove in another. Tagan Levao-Maisonet finished with two singles and scored two runs.

Flagler wasted little time in getting on the board in the second game. Smith and McQuillan had back-to-back RBI singles and Snipes blasted a three-run home run to give the Saints a quick 5-0 lead.

The Saints added two more in the second and third innings, and then added one more in the fourth.

Jordan Sheets (6-1) allowed an unearned run on four hits to go along with four strikeouts. She retired the last seven of eight batters she faced.

Snipes went 2-for-3 with the home run and had four runs batted in. Emily Ricci went 2-for-3 with a triple, one RBI, and she scored three runs. Morgan Hicks finished with two singles and drove in a run.

Mallory Forrester (0-1) took the loss as she allowed five runs on four hits.

Four different North Georgia players hit a single.
