ST. AUGUSTINE –
Trace McDonald scored a goal with 2:27 left to go in the game as No. 8 (USILA Division II Top 20) Flagler College edged No. 14 Molloy University 7-6 in a non-conference men's lacrosse game this evening at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
The Saints advance to 10-1 on the season and extended their winning streak to nine games. The Lions, from Rockville Centre, New York, dropped to 7-3. The Saints will return on April 5 to host The University of Alabama in Huntsville at noon in a Peach Belt Conference opener.
The Saints kicked off the game by scoring the only goal in the first quarter, thanks to Tyler Douglas. He went on to score his second goal of the game to start the second quarter.
Brian Green finally put the Lions on the board in the second quarter.
Ben Nyberg followed up with two goals to end the first half 4-1 for the Saints.
Molloy began to come back in the third quarter with three goals thanks to Green, Luke Hickam and Jake Taylor. This closed the Lions deficit to one goal (5-4).
The Lions continued to chip away in the fourth quarter, tying it up 6-6 with 7:20 left in the game.
McDonald finished with two goals and an assist for the Saints.
Josh Stevens recorded five saves.
Green and Taylor led Molloy with two goals apiece. Christian Michaels recorded 11 saves. Brandon Pazienza collected five groundballs and won 11 faceoffs.
