INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Taylor Stone of the Flagler College women's track and field team wrapped up her solo trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship this afternoon.

Competing in the mile and the 3000 meter run, for the second year in a row, Stone represented the Saints at the pinnacle of Division II running. This is the first time Stone qualified for the 3K and the second time she has qualified for the mile.

Stone's trek began on Thursday where she raced in the mile preliminaries. In an unforeseen event, one of the competitors tripped and fell, taking Stone with her. Due to this setback, Stone finished in 17th place, with a time of 4:53.19. "She was unlucky in the mile, with the Adams State University runner going down right in front of her," said head coach Brian Beil. "She didn't have time to react and avoid her. It was deemed incidental contact by the officials. That's championship racing though, and it would have been easy to get down after that and give up. I am proud of the way she got back up and fought until the end of it."

Stone becomes the first Saint to be a two-time All-American. Competing in the 3K on Saturday, Stone narrowly placed 11th in a pool of 18 runners. In a time of 9:33.38, Stone missed 10th place by a .19 of second margin. Beil said, "She came back in the 3K and earned second team All-America, which is not easy at this level. Not the result we dreamed of when we made the trip, but a great effort nonetheless."
