ST. AUGUSTINE –
Ava Lambros scored a hat trick to lead No. 16 (IWLCA Division II Top 25) Flagler College to an 11-10 victory over Kutztown University in a non-conference women's lacrosse game Thursday night at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
The Saints even their overall record to 4-4 while the Bears suffered their first loss of the season and dropped to 5-1. The Saints will host No. 7 University of Indianapolis on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Ella Pinder scored the first of the consecutive Flagler goals in the second quarter to give the Saints a lead they would not relinquish. Flagler scored five goals in the second quarter to take an 8-6 lead at the half.
The Saints continued to pull away in the third quarter with goals from
Jessica Wright and
Sydney Onega. Onega and Wright ended up scoring two goals apiece for the Saints in this game.
The Bears began to surge towards the end of the fourth quarter with a four-goal run, bringing them within a point. However, it was not enough.
Despite falling short in the end, Marisa Bragg made seven saves while in goal for the Bears. Sam Graf scored a game-high six goals.
The Saints defense stood out tonight with
Jenn Seebach causing three turnovers and collecting four groundballs. Pinder and
Carly LaFerriere won four draw controls each and both caused a turnover. Pinder also scored two goals for the Saints.
