ST. AUGUSTINE –
Trace McDonald and
Luke Burton each scored a hat trick to lead No. 10 (USILA Division II Top 20) Flagler College to a 15-11 win over Palm Beach Atlantic University in a non-conference men's lacrosse game tonight at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
The Saints extended their winning streak to seven games and moved up to 8-1 on the season. The win broke the program record for most wins in a season. The Saints won seven games in each of the last two seasons and the program debuted in 2022. The Sailfish lost their first game of the season and dropped to 3-1 overall. Flagler will return on Sunday at 2 p.m. as it hosts Lynn University.
The game was tied at 3-3 to end the first quarter. Thanks to a three-goal surge at the end of the second quarter, with two goals from Burton and one from
Dylan Wilson, the Saints took a 7-6 lead into the half.
The Sailfish attempted to close the gap in the third quarter with three consecutive goals from Cooper Laughlin, Curtis Goddard and Bryce Downs. This brought PBA into a 9-8 lead.
However,
Beau Howard managed to score the equalizer and McDonald followed up with another goal to secure the Saints lead to end the third quarter. Howard's goal ignited a 6-0 run by the Saints.
Ty Scheckenbach led the Saints defensive efforts, causing five turnovers and collecting two groundballs. Saints' goalie
Wade Lamon made five saves and
Josh Stevens made four.
Despite falling short in the end, Sailfish goalie Brendan Pedisich stood out with 11 saves. Bryce Downs recorded two goals and tallied two assists.
