ST. AUGUSTINE –
Taylor Shultz went 3-for-5 with a double and scored three runs as Flagler College knocked off No. 22 (ABCA Division II Top 25) Rollins College 8-5 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 16-6 overall while Rollins dropped to 13-6. The Saints begin a three-game Peach Belt Conference series at USC Aiken on Friday at 6 p.m.
The Saints led 4-2 going into the bottom of fifth inning.
Bryce Fitzgerald led off the inning by reaching on an error by the Rollins third baseman. Shultz hit a single to left-center and Flagler had runners on the corners. Shultz then stole second base. Tars' reliever Blake Tipmore retired the next two batters and was relieved by Douglas Rojas.
Cade Kresak drew a walk to load the bases. Rojas' wild pitch allowed each runner to advance a base and Fitzgerald scored to increase the Flagler lead to 5-2.
Eli Maddox hit a ground ball to Rollins' shortstop, but the throw to first base was wild and allowed Maddox to go to second base and two runs scored.
Drew Rosenberg (2-0) earned his second win of the season as he allowed one run on two hits in 1.2 innings of relief.
Eli Roberts started and tossed 4.1 innings, scattered six hits, and allowed two runs with four strikeouts.
