AMERICUS, Ga. –
Abby Smith scored a season-high 19 points coming off the bench to help Flagler College hold on to defeat Georgia Southwestern State University 68-65 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday evening at The Storm Dome.
Flagler wrapped up the regular season with a 13-14 overall record and a 9-9 mark in the Peach Belt. The Saints can finish in a tie for fourth place, but they lose the tiebreaker with Georgia College & State University. The Bobcats play Columbus State University tomorrow. Georgia Southwestern fell to 12-14 overall and 8-10 in conference play. The Lady 'Canes are tied for sixth place with Lander University. The bracket for the conference tournament will be released tomorrow at the conclusion of the remaining games.
Flagler held a 65-59 lead with 40 seconds left to go in the game after a
Destiny McClendon three-pointer. However, GSW was able to pull to within a point (66-65) after Ndidiamaka Ndukwe made two-of-three free throws with nine seconds left.
Aspen Weeks was fouled with seven seconds left and made both shots from the charity stripe. Destiny Garrett missed a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer.
Smith made 8-of-her-12 shots from the field and drained three 3-pointers for the Saints. McClendon added 17 points and had four steals.
Se'Lah Reddick finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Carleigh Grimm chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds.
Garrett scored a game-high 21 points for the Lady 'Canes. Ndukwe finished with 18 points and five rebounds while Kaeleigh Boykin tacked on 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Shane' Jackson provided 10 points in a reserve role.
