Saints rally late but can’t overcome Pacers

AIKEN, S.C. – Jazmine Major came off the bench to score a season high 23 points in Flagler College's 67-59 loss at USC Aiken Wednesday evening at the Convocation Center.

USC Aiken won its second game in a row and improved to 5-15 overall and 2-8 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 8-11 overall and 4-6 in conference play. The Saints head to Milledgeville on Saturday to face Georgia College & State University at 1:30 p.m.

Flagler trailed by as many as 13 points in the third quarter, but managed to whittle away the USC Aiken lead. A pair of Sharale McCormick free throws with 8:13 left in the game brought Flagler to within two points (47-45).

Abby Smith's short jumper got the Saints back to a two-point deficit (51-49) with 6:11 left, but the Pacers followed with a 7-2 spurt for enough separation to hold on to the win.

Major added six rebounds to her line. Abby Smith finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Carleigh Grimm gathered a career high 14 rebounds.

Flagler out-rebounded USC Aiken 48-36 and grabbed 17 offensive boards that led to 16 second chance points.

Riley Simmons led the Pacers with 23 points as she made 10-of-13 from the field. Rhiannon Saller added 14 points.
