GREENWOOD, S.C. –
Sharale McCormick sank a pair of free throws with 6:35 left in the third quarter to become the program's all-time scoring leader with 1,379 points in Flagler College's 89-84 loss at Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference basketball game Wednesday evening at Finis Horne Arena.
McCormick finished with 14 points, which increased her career total to 1,386 points. Tara Teague (1996-2000) held the previous record with 1,378 points.
Lander evened its overall record to 12-12 overall and 7-10 in the Peach Belt. Flagler had its four-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 12-14 overall and 8-9 in conference play. The Saints wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Georgia Southwestern State University at 5:30 p.m.
Flagler trailed by as many as 13 in the third quarter, but tied the game at 80 with 1:18 to go after a
Destiny McClendon layup. Both teams only made one field goal the rest of the way, but the Bearcats were a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, which clinched the game. Quadaija Langley made all four of her shots from the charity stripe, all coming within 18 seconds that gave Lander an 87-82 lead. She finished with a game-high 38 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the floor and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Langley sank four treys.
Shcira Fowles recorded a double-double for the Bearcats with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. She added five assists, two blocked shots, and two steals. Trinity Thomas supplied 15 points.
McCormick added six rebounds, five assists, and two steals to her line. McClendon scored a team-high 27 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and she made 8-of-9 from the free throw line.
Marley Smith added 16 points.
The Saints forced 15 Bearcat turnovers and scored 29 points in return.
