Saints win two more games to complete 4-0 weekend

SALISBURY, N.C. – Flagler College won a pair of games this afternoon at the Nan Whitley Invitational at Whitley Field. The Saints defeated Frostburg State University 6-3 and then defeated Converse University, 7-2.

Flagler extended its winning streak to seven games and improved to 12-4 overall. Frostburg State fell to 1-4 while Converse dropped to 4-13. The Saints will take a little break as their next doubleheader is March 4 at Nova Southeastern University.

The got started early in the first game against Frostburg State. Sydney Stewart led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to right-center and then scored on Emily Ricci's single up the middle.

Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Stewart socked a two-run home run down the left field line to give Flagler some insurance. She finished 3-for-3 with a double, home run, three runs batted in, and she scored two runs. The Saints added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Alyssa Hunter (5-0) allowed three runs on five hits with a season-high eight strikeouts as she remained unblemished this year. She retired six batters on fly outs and seven more on ground outs.

Izabella Donaldson (1-2) allowed four earned runs on seven hits in taking the loss for the Bobcats.

Samara Funk went 2-for-4 with a solo home run.

Flagler used a five-run seventh inning to pull away from Converse.

The Saints held a 2-1 lead going into the top of the seventh and the first four batters each hit a single. Mariclaire Sabados hit a two-run double to left field later in the inning.

That proved to more than enough for Stephanie Daly (2-1) to get the win. She allowed two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Hannah Smith collected two singles and scored two runs. Kiley McQuillan and Kyla Knier each finished with two singles, scored a run, and drove in another. Jordan Moss went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
