ST. AUGUSTINE –
Beau Howard and
Jack Pilla both scored hat tricks to aid Flagler College to a 17-10 win in its non-conference men's lacrosse game against No. 20 (USILA Division II Top 20) Westminster University of Salt Lake City this morning at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
Flagler improved to 4-1 overall and this was its second consecutive win over a nationally-ranked opponent. Westminster dropped to 0-2. Up next for the Saints is Rollins College on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Winter Park, Florida.
The game was tied at four to end the first quarter. The Saints went on to score the next eight-of-nine goals to take a dominating 11-4 lead. Howard scored all three of his goals in that run.
Twelve different Saints found the back of the net in today's high-scoring game.
Trace McDonald scored a pair of goals and as many assists.
Ryan Pontillo led the Griffins with five goals. Donovan Fox added two more.
Saints goalie
Wade Lamon stood out with six saves and
Josh Stevens made two.
Matt Mitrega won seven faceoffs for the Saints.
Ty Scheckenbach helped out the defense as well, causing five turnovers and three groundballs.
Griffins goalie Christian Jones stood out with 11 saves.
